If you do find yourself in a position where you require dentures adhesive, you should make sure that you know how to use it properly, if you want to use it to maximum effect. Here are some tips about dentures adhesive:

1) Start using when necessary but do not rely on it

Adhesive can be used to prevent loss of dentures, but if the problem becomes persistent it is best to visit your dental technician to have your existing dentures reshaped. This can help to counteract the initial problem and make your dentures far more comfortable to wear.

2) Powder or Paste?

The most common forms of adhesive are powder or paste ones. Unless your dentist has specific advice for you on which form would be better in your case, then it will be up to you to choose which form of adhesive your would prefer to use to prevent loss of dentures. Some people find that paste offers them better retention that powder does, whilst others argue that paste can be messy, and it is difficult to gauge the correct amount which is needed. If you try out a few different types, you will quickly come to know what suits you best.

3) Use adhesive sparingly

Use dentures adhesive in moderate amounts. You should only need to use a few dabs of the adhesive on your upper and lower dentures, in the order to keep them in place. Using too much adhesive at once can actually be counterproductive, as it will ruin the fit of the dentures and can introduce air pockets which will prevent them from sitting properly in the mouth. If you are using an adhesive paste and it is able to ooze out of either side of your denture when you put it into place, then you have applied too much.

4) Never use an out of date product

Depending on what type of product you have, it will usually either have best before date on it, or it will have a symbol showing how long the product can be used after opening. Do not exceed this date, or the product could begin to pose a health risk to you. If your product is out of date, it is advised that you buy a new one, especially if it is a zinc containing adhesive.

Once you begin to use dentures adhesive, you will learn that it provides an easy way to prevent loss dentures.
